First Women’s Health Strategy announced, but Peppy warns employers not to wait

Following news that the Government has published the first Women’s Health Strategy, Peppy, the digital health platform, says it welcomes the move, but urges employers not to wait for the recommendations to be implemented.

Mridula Pore, co-founder, Peppy, says: “The strategy from the Government is a very positive step, however, these recommendations will take time to implement. Specialist support for women’s health is already available for employers to offer their staff, it is within employers’ power to take action now.

“We’ve been very encouraged by the sheer number of employers that have already launched such services, and proactively offer specific support to women and people assigned female at birth.

“In our experience, and research, businesses are very much aware of the benefit to their own organisations in offering gender-specific health support: it’s available for minimal cost and effort, and is proven to make a tangible difference. Women face particular health challenges, including menopause, that may lead to them having to take time off or even leave the workforce altogether, when they don’t get the support they need. Expert women’s health support can help improve engagement, productivity and attract and retain a gender-diverse workforce – all very real issues that businesses face today.

“We’re pleased that the Government has recognised that more needs to be done to look after women, but we’d remind employers that the ability to make impactful change is already within their hands.

“Upcoming awareness days, such as World Menopause Day and Fertility Awareness Month provide more opportunities for employers to promote the support they offer, and are also likely to see increased demand from employees for such support. It makes sense for employers to be on the front foot.”
