How to build a digital adviser Part 4: social media

Time your content

And finally, when and how often should you post? Regular, consistent posts are the ideal. Every week is good, every day night be overkill, but the beauty of social media is that it’s a great opportunity to experiment. And the more frequently you post, the more data you’ll have to work with. You can schedule these posts so you don’t have to manually post them by using an app like Buffer of Content Cal.

When you’re starting out, it’s worth bearing in mind some generally popular posting windows. For example, before lockdown, if you’re posting on LinkedIn, doing so in the morning between 7am and 9am when people are waking up, commuting and checking their phone is more likely to get your post seen. Or after 5pm when people are finishing work.

Who knows what the rules are with timings now, but now that we’re all online a lot more, now is as good a time as any to get started now with social media.

The more you post, the more you’ll be seen, and the more you’ll grow your following. In a week or two of consistent, regular, strategic posting it’ll no longer just be your mother-in-law and your dog following you, but a whole range of clients, introducers and prospects.

And that’s when things get really exciting.

Don’t forget YouTube. After Google it’s the second biggest search engine, so posting videos is another good way to get found. But we’ll cover this next time.
