Regional SME funding is taking the spotlight with a series of events organised by trade associationUK Business Angels Association (UKBAA) and Innovate UK.
Together they are hosting the first of a series of events to bring together investors and entrepreneurs in the UK’s regions, kicking off today in Bristol. Other dates are Newcastle 6 June and Cardiff 26 June.
The Connected Investing event series aims to lift the lid on the latest initiatives open to both the investor and start-up communities. The events will feature the latest updates from newly emerging funds, including the British Business Investments £100m fund and Innovate UK’s regional angel investment accelerator.
The events will also take a look at how the changing face of funding has placed more emphasis on the importance of angel investment and hear from inspirational entrepreneurs and their journeys in building and exiting successful businesses.
Jenny Tooth, CEO of the UKBAA, told GBI Magazine: “Entrepreneurs across the UK need access to a connected supply of risk capital to build their innovating business from start-up to successful scale-up, yet currently the majority of the investment capital is focused on London and the South east.
“To address this, we all need to shift our attention to building and growing an effective investment ecosystem in the UK regions. We are organising the Connected Investing event with the support of Innovate UK here at the Engine Shed in Bristol where we are already partnering to provide our Angel Hub.
“This event will enable investors and entrepreneurs to gain insights on the funding landscape across the South West, hearing from key industry players and case studies. The event will also present two major new national initiatives: the new £100m British Business Bank regional Angels Programme and the new Innovate UK Regional Angel Investment Accelerator being piloted in the region and showing how these will boost local investment capacity and increase access to capital for the region’s innovators.”
