Hipgnosis buys 50% of Neil Young catalogue

(Sharecast News) – Music rights investor Hipgnosis Songs Fund said it had bought 50% of Neil Young’s worldwide copyright and income interests in his 1,180 song catalogue.
No financial details were disclosed. Young, 75, rose to prominence in the 1960’s and 1970’s and has enjoyed success as a solo artist and with bands including Buffalo Springfield, Crazy Horse and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

He has released almost 50 studio albums and more than 20 live albums, of which 18 are certified gold, seven platinum and three multi-platinum. Seven of his albums have been listed on Rolling Stone Magazine’s ‘500 Greatest Albums of All Time’ chart, including ‘Everybody Knows This is Nowhere’, ‘After The Gold Rush’, ‘Déjà Vu’ (with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young) ‘Harvest’, ‘On The Beach’, ‘Tonight’s the Night’, and ‘Rust Never Sleeps’.

Over a seven-decade long career, the Canadian artist has won two Grammy awards and been nominated a further 25 times. He has also won seven Juno awards and has been inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice – as a solo artist and as a member of Buffalo Springfield.
