Welcome to the September edition of IFA Magazine – including the latest GBI Magazine an an added extra!

While the Covid pandemic continues to impact our daily lives, it’s not quite business as usual. However, the financial advice profession is getting used to the prospect of face to face meetings again, after such a long time of isolation and working from home. Networking and client meetings are back on the agenda, as well as the option of returning to the office environment. How exciting! Of course, there have been many lessons learned as a result of the changes brought about by the pandemic. The financial advice sector has proved itself to be incredibly resilient in the shift to remote working and its use of technology. Many of these changes are likely to form the basis of a new working regime going forwards.

In this month’s cover story, ‘Working from home or office?’ on page 17, Rebecca Tomes has been finding out whether people across the profession are planning a full return to office life, still working from home or a combination of the two in some form of hybrid model. It’s well worth a read.

ESG IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Despite all the dramatic changes which the pandemic has brought about over the last eighteen months, one thing which has not changed in advice circles is the growing emphasis on sustainable/ESG investing. This is set continue dominating headlines, especially as we approach the United Nations Climate Change Conference (snappily called COP 26) which is being held in Glasgow this November. Julia Dreblow and Lee Coates are two of the most highly regarded specialists in this field. We’re delighted that, starting this month, both of these notable experts will be sharing their thoughts with us in each edition of IFA Magazine throughout the autumn. We’re grateful to them for their help in boosting our knowledge of the issues involved as well as the solutions which are available to advisers to help meet clients’ objectives with regard to sustainable investing.

THE BUSINESS OF ADVICE

Also for this edition of IFA Magazine, we’ve been out there talking to some more leading lights in the advice profession. The Openwork Partnership is one of the UK’s largest financial services networks. I’ve been chatting to their Chief Commercial Officer, Mike Morrow, about some of the interesting developments which have been going on for the group in recent times. I’ve also been talking to Keith Brown, CEO of Wealth Holdings in a useful conversation about how they are helping IFA and financial planning businesses with their development plans, be that business exit, making acquisitions or succession planning.

But that’s just scratching the surface of what’s to come in the following pages. There’s plenty more really great content to get you thinking in this combined edition of IFA Magazine and GBI Magazine. In fact, this is the last edition where you’ll see “two in one”. GBI Magazine is set to make a big splash next month as there’s such strong interest in the alternative investment arena. We’re sure you’ll like it! In the meantime, we hope you enjoy this edition and that you find some useful ideas you can utilise.
