OnePlanetCapital, the climate change focused VC, has launched an angel syndicate to allow investors access to select single companies that sit within the fund. The syndicate will back companies from pre-seed to Series A with the company aiming to close its first angel syndicate investments in March 2024.

Matthew Jellicoe said of the syndicate initiative; ‘we see growing demand from individual investors and family offices interested in the climate change space. Also, the initiative is based on the realisation that funds are not right for all investors. Whilst the fund provides a selection of 6-8 companies and thus mitigates some risk, sophisticated investors, and particularly professional investors have asked for concentration into single companies. Really the syndicate is a response to this demand’.

The angel syndicate will also provide a nominee structure that is suitable for family offices wanting to invest directly into single companies outside of an EIS structure.

The companies involved in the syndicate will have already gone through due diligence as part of the selection process for the OnePlanetCapital Climate Change EIS Fund and where possible OnePlanetCapital will take a board seat or an observer seat in selected companies to ensure as much oversight as possible.
