The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) has announced the 2023/24 cohort of the New Generation talent programme. From over 150 applicants, the final 41 have been selected, and this week met their fellow group members, CII staff and programme mentors for the first time, in an introductory session at the CII Group’s UK office.
Now in its twelfth year, the CII’s New Generation programme is a professional development opportunity for professionals with five or more years’ experience within their field. Cohorts are split into four groups, representing each of the four general insurance sectors: London market, underwriting, broking, and claims. The groups are given the opportunity to work on a project or initiative that they believe could make a different to the insurance profession, presenting their conclusions and outputs back to the CII Group Board at the end of the programme year. The projects typically take around six months to complete and involve collaboration between group members across the country. These projects are often challenging, but hugely rewarding for those taking part, with the potential to benefit the sector and beyond.
During their year-long programme, participants can benefit from a range of learning opportunities, such as talks from Members of Parliament and organisations in the insurance sector, as well as receiving training on subjects such as leadership and handling the media.
Dr Matthew Connell, Director for Policy and Public Affairs at the CII, said: “We are very pleased to welcome the 2023/24 cohort into what I’m sure will be an exciting and challenging year for them. The New Generation programme is an exceptional development opportunity that will provide invaluable experience. Our successful participants should be very proud to have gotten through a challenging application process. I wish them all the best in their work over the coming year and look forward to seeing their outputs next year.”
