Two-thirds of employers state health & wellbeing support aids recruitment and retention

In research undertaken by Towergate Health & Protection, 66% of employers stated that the health and wellbeing support they offer plays an important role in the company’s ability to recruit and retain talent. This is particularly important at a time of high employment when companies are competing to hire good staff.

Indeed, 37% of those surveyed stated that the way they support the health and wellbeing of their staff is a key reason people stay with the company, and 28% stated it is a key reason people choose to join the company.

Drilling further down into the figures, 29% of employers stated that they are able to use specific health and wellbeing support to target the recruitment of particular demographics, allowing them to recruit and retain the right staff.

Many of those who do not offer strong health and wellbeing support were able to see how they are missing out, and the benefits that a more robust programme could have. This is shown by the 23% of employers who stated that they do not offer enough health and wellbeing support and that this impacts their ability to recruit and retain employees.

Debra Clark, head of wellbeing at Towergate Health & Protection, says: “Offering health and wellbeing support has so many areas of positive impact, not least in helping to attract and retain talent.

“By offering support targeted at particular groups, an employer can ensure that they and their staff are getting the very most from the options available, and forward-thinking employers see just how much this can support their recruitment and retention strategy.”
