New research from Bupa Dental Care highlights that dental professionals are increasingly seeking supportive, flexible workplaces that offer development opportunities and a culture that supports well-being.
Dental practitioners prioritise work-life balance (35%), training and development (31%), and a collaborative, supportive culture (29%) when it comes to their career. At the same time, one in three (33%) feel there are limited opportunities for progression and a lack of mentoring. A quarter of respondents said they want to make a meaningful impact in the industry, while 24% want to feel valued and work somewhere they are proud of.
Dental professionals also emphasised that access to mental health services (40%), peer mentoring (38%), and better support for physical pain (38%) would enhance their well-being at work. More than a third (37%) also stated that a more flexible work environment would make a difference to their roles, particularly during key life events, such as menopause or when they have caring responsibilities.
The findings come as Bupa Dental Care launches its Feel at Ease campaign, which is designed to support dental professionals in feeling confident and cared for in their careers. The campaign also supports the patient experience, recognising that dental anxiety remains a common barrier to care. By helping patients feel more comfortable in the dentist’s chair, and supporting dental professionals in their careers, the campaign takes a holistic approach to well-being for all.
Mark Allan, General Manager for Bupa Dental Care, said: “The dentist’s chair is at the heart of every surgery, and we want our people to feel as supported as the patients they care for every day. That’s why our Feel at Ease campaign prioritises both sides of the chair – making it a place of comfort for patients, while instilling confidence and support for our teams, helping them thrive in their careers, and in turn, deliver the best possible care.
“Our findings highlight the importance of supporting well-being in the workplace as well as encouraging professional growth through rewarding career paths. This is something we’re proud to offer at Bupa Dental Care, recognising that looking after our practice team’s health and well-being and future goals helps them be the best version of themselves.”
