Financial planning business Finli Group has smashed its fundraising targets, raising a £14,074 for Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer Scotland. Colleagues completed 3,603 miles in a national relay challenge – more than double the original goal.
The challenge, which launched on Monday 8th June, originally set out to cover the 1,550-mile route between Finli’s northernmost office in Orkney and its office in Arundel on the south coast of England. However, colleagues from across the country kept walking, running and cycling well beyond the finish line, collectively covering 3,603 miles – the equivalent distance from Orkney all the way to Casablanca.
In total nearly 500 colleagues took part from Finli offices in Arundel, Borehamwood, Camberley, Cheltenham, Cobham, Falkirk, Glasgow, Hedon, Leamington Spa, Leeds, London, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northallerton, Orkney, Pontyclun, Reading, St Helens, Sutton Coldfield, Swanley, Taunton, Tonbridge, Wakefield, and Wirral.
The relay challenge formed part of Finli’s wider charity partnership with Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer Scotland, which the firm launched earlier this year alongside a day-today scheme that donates to the charities for every referral received. An initial £10,000 donation from the referral programme was announced in June, bringing the total fundraising effort to date to over £24,000.
“We set ourselves what we thought was an ambitious target, and our colleagues dug deep to exceed it, and then some! To cover 3,603 miles – more than twice the original distance – is a testament to the passion and commitment of the Finli team.
“Dementia affects nearly one million people in the UK and countless more families and carers. We hope that this fundraising, combined with our ongoing referral scheme, will make a meaningful difference to the vital work carried out by Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer Scotland.”
