How to build a digital adviser Part 5: video

Live Q&A

Taking live questions from your audience is a great way you to demonstrate your expertise, transparency as a business (and approachability). Live Q&A sessions are also a fantastic way to build trust, gain loyal followers and extend your reach.

They also give you the opportunity to find out what topics people are really interested in, which can help inform the rest of your marketing strategy.

To create a live Q&A session all you need to do is go live on a live streaming platform such as LinkedIn live or Facebook Live and reply to your audience’s questions.

Holding sessions at the same time every week – say every Friday at 4pm – helps to get your sessions known.

Recorded videos

Repurposing content you’ve already created is a great approach to creating pre-recorded videos. For example, the next logical step after the live Q&A would be to take excerpts from this and repurpose them as individual standalone videos that you can upload onto your YouTube channel.

YouTube is the second biggest search engine after Google, so if you post there consistently it will increase your chances of being found by people.

That’s why taking the questions you’re most frequently asked is always a good place to start with video, whether it’s taken from a live Q&A or not.

These should be short and snappy – attention spans for video are around the 60-second mark – so try to make them succinct.

Leveraging all that content

You can also use video to promote the content you’re producing elsewhere. A snippet that sums up the key points can be used alongside your social media content marketing calendar to boost your blog’s reach.

Include video in your regular email newsletter too – just using the word video in your email subject line can increase your click through rates by up to 20%.

And finally, equipment

There’s lots to choose from, but we’d recommend the Rode NT-USB Microphone is ideal for video recording and is compatible with Windows and Mac OS based computers. It also comes with its own ‘pop filter’ to help to smooth the sound, as well as a desktop tripod.

In terms of a webcam, this one from Logitech works brilliantly with Skype, Zoom, FaceTime to deliver crisp images even when video streaming and works with PCs, laptops, Macs and tablets. It has automatic light adjusting built into it which means it will make sure you’re in clear view, even in dim lighting conditions.

While the above may seem daunting at first, the more you do, the easier it gets. And because there are so few people doing this in finance, the opportunities to stand out and get noticed are high.
