Mortgage expert, media commentator and founder of The Mortgage Mum, Sarah Tucker, has announced the launch of a new educational YouTube series, On The Ladder, designed to tackle the widening disconnect between lender innovation and first-time buyer understanding.
On The Ladder premieres at 10:00am on Monday 24th November on The Mortgage Mum YouTube channel, offering accessible, jargon-free content for aspiring homeowners navigating a challenging and often misunderstood mortgage landscape.
A critical moment for first-time buyer education
Recent research suggests eight in ten university students believe homeownership is completely out of reach, despite lenders increasing their focus on accessibility through 100% mortgages, family-assisted products, affordability model updates, schemes such as Deposit Unlock and Own New, and new-build incentives.
Tucker, who has represented advisers at 10 Downing Street as part of the Government’s New Media Unit, says the gap is not product availability, it’s public awareness.
“Lenders have innovated significantly over the last 18 months, but the average first-time buyer has no idea these solutions exist,” says Tucker.
“I see this every week, whether I’m speaking on ITV’s This Morning, advising policymakers at Downing Street, or talking to customers. The message people hear is that buying is impossible. The reality is more nuanced, and this series is designed to bring clarity back into the conversation.”
The launch follows renewed government focus on housing accessibility, SME housebuilder support, planning reform, and financial education, areas Tucker has contributed to through media, policy roundtables and national commentary.
Industry insight brought directly to consumer
Each episode of On The Ladder tackles a core homebuying milestone, featuring perspectives from estate agents, solicitors, mortgage advisers and sector specialists, including Gemma Bennett, senior adviser at The Mortgage Mum.
Episode topics include:
- deposit routes & low-deposit schemes
- 100% and family-supported mortgages
- new-build incentives and lender-led affordability boosts
- the legal process explained
- tips for negotiating
Designed as an accessible, bingeable resource, the series aims to shift the mindset of discouraged buyers and reintroduce fact-based clarity into an often misleading public narrative.
A platform with national reach
Tucker’s unique position, combining mainstream media visibility, policy engagement and frontline adviser experience, makes On The Ladder the first consumer series to link real-time industry changes with public understanding.
“Consumers are getting their information from headlines, soundbites and social media,” Tucker adds.
“As an industry, we have a responsibility to communicate clearly. This series brings the right voices into the room, advisers, lenders, estate agents, solicitors, and speaks in a way the public can actually understand.”
