With the price of gold rallying hard from the lowest in 9 months, private investors who include precious metals in their portfolio are forecasting a near £500 gain per troy ounce by New Year 2027 in the latest BullionVault Investor Survey.
That would take the price of gold for UK investors back up to £3,500 per ounce, reversing half of the 25% plunge it’s made since hitting all-time price highs above £4,000 at the start of the year.
“While the price of gold remains a long way beneath the New Year’s all-time record highs, it has broken its recent downtrend and stopped falling, at least for the time being,” says BullionVault director of research Adrian Ash.
“Central banks continue buying gold, Asian consumer demand is likely to return as usual in the autumn, and private investors remain positive, forecasting the steepest mid-to-end-year rise predicted in our surveys to date.”
Now run every 6 months since the end of 2014, BullionVault’s survey of precious metals investors polled over 950 full responses this month. On average, respondents expect gold to rise significantly by New Year 2027, predicting a gain of 13.8% − the strongest mid-year forecast in the survey’s 12-year history.
In Sterling terms, that would place gold at £3,508 per troy ounce ($4,665). Half of those surveyed believe that gold will rise between 10-20% by the end of the year.
| Price forecast per troy ounce | |
| Gold | +13.7% $4665 £3508 |
| Silver | +16.7% $69.69 £52.52 |
| Platinum | +8.4% $1743 £1311 |
| Palladium | +7.9% $1337 £1006 |
The research also points to a broadening investor base. More than one-third (35.3%) of respondents first invested in precious metals since 2020, including 15.2% who entered the market during 2025 or 2026. At the same time, one in five investors (20.4%) have been investing in precious metals since before the Global Financial Crisis, highlighting a mix of experienced investors and newer entrants to the market.
Ash continued: “While it may seem unsurprising that investors who own precious metals are bullish on the outlook for gold prices, our respondents say that other investments currently account for three-quarters of their self-investable wealth.
“Rather than betting everything on bullion, investors in precious metals are using them as part of a wider portfolio, spreading risk as stock markets face fears of the AI bubble crashing and bonds face a new threat from oil-led inflation.”
