PortfolioMetrix has hired Alex Funk as its new Head of Investments in the UK as Nic Spicer steps back from his operational role at the business.
Funk will join the leading discretionary management firm on 1 August. He will arrive from Schroders Investment Solutions where he is currently Chief Investment Officer. He was also CIO of Benchmark Capital from 2019 to 2021 and, before moving to the UK, was chief executive at Cinnabar Investment Management in South Africa.
Having launched and run a number of ESG portfolios at PortfolioMetrix, Spicer is leaving his executive role to further his knowledge and pursue a master’s degree in Sustainable Energy Futures at Imperial College. He remains a shareholder in the business and will run an extensive handover process to ensure that Funk has a smooth transition into his new position.
Spicer helped launch PortfolioMetrix in the UK in 2012 and has developed a first-class investment team as well as embedding a risk-focused investment process and philosophy within the business.
PortfolioMetrix Global CEO Brandon Zietsman said: “Nic has done a fantastic job building an outstanding investment team and we’re immensely grateful for the part he has played in developing the business to this point.”
PortfolioMetrix UK Managing Director Ben Peele said: “We’re very excited for Alex to join in the summer. His breadth of experience across MPS, multi-asset and insourced solutions will bring a different perspective and ensure that PortfolioMetrix’s proposition keeps evolving. His proven track record on driving growth will help take our business to even greater heights.”
