Sanlam is continuing its sponsorship of the Go Dad Run series, which boosts awareness of men’s health issues and raises money for Prostate Cancer UK.

The wealth management company will be the headline sponsor for the series of events which take place in June this year.

Olympic hurdler Colin Jackson CBE came up with the idea of Go Dad Run. It’s a series of 5k and 10k fun runs for men and boys. It features in six UK city centre locations during “Father’s Day” month of June: London, Bristol, Cardiff, Worcester, Sunderland and the Isle of Man.

Sanlam say they and Go Dad Run are passionate about increasing awareness of the dangers and symptoms of prostate cancer. It affects 1:8 men in the UK (with this ratio reducing to 1:4 for men from an African/Caribbean background). The initial diagnosis is made through a simple blood test. All men over the age of 45 are urged talk to their GP about a PSA test.

Giles Cross (Head of Marketing & PR Sanlam UK): “We’re really proud of our association with Go Dad Run. Whilst prostate cancer, on the face of it, only affects men we mustn’t forget that many of those men have wives, children, sisters, mothers and aunts whose lives can be turned upside down by this awful illness. As an organisation we are focused on helping people live the best lives possible and, through this sponsorship, we believe that we can help make a difference; through education, through raising awareness and through the removal of stigma. We may not be able to prevent the illness but we can put an end to good men dying needlessly. That is our goal.”

Colin Jackson CBE (Olympic & World Champion Athlete: Founder of Go Dad Run): “I’m looking forward to working with Sanlam UK again as our headline sponsor as we grow the Go Dad Run 5K and 10K runs for men and boys and raise awareness of men’s health issues and funds for Prostate Cancer UK. Events such as ours are only able to exist because of the generous support of our sponsors and we are extremely fortunate to have the backing of Sanlam UK and their team and customers as we build up towards the Go Dad Run events in June.”

James Beedy (Head of Fundraising Prostate Cancer UK): “We’re delighted to hear that Sanlam UK are continuing their support of the Go Dad Run project as headline sponsors, showing a real commitment to men’s health issues. The Sanlam Go Dad Run is not about winning, it’s about families uniting and having fun. This army of men of all ages in London, Cardiff, Bristol, Worcester, Sunderland and the Isle of Man are the perfect example of what we call Men United: guys getting together and doing something great to beat prostate cancer.”

Lauren Tunnicliffe (Corporate Engagement Manager Sanlam UK): “We’re already excited about Go Dad Run 2016 and momentum and support is already building across our footprint – especially in the North East where we think the events will prove especially popular. It’s important to us as a business, not only to engage our customers, support the fundraising efforts and increase awareness of prostate cancer but also to work with fellow businesses and individuals for the common good of promoting men’s health issues. We look forward to welcoming lots of friends, old and new to our events and continuing to build on what Colin has created.”
