Sparrow Solutions Report Writing Workshop: Release your inner storyteller

Whilst there are loads of technical exams and CPD for paraplanners, there’s actually very little practical training available. Sparrow Solutions, founded by Caroline Stuart a CISI Accredited Paraplanner and Chartered Member of CISI, is hosting another CISI-endorsed CPD session on how to craft great client reports.

This workshop covers everything a paraplanner will need to create client-friendly, engaging, and compliant reports and will help boost a paraplanner’s personal development as well. What’s not to love?

When is it on?

Wednesday 3rd July from 9.30 am until 1.00 pm and you can buy tickets here!

What’s it all about?

We all know that our Suitability Reports and Plans need to explain to clients how our advice is suitable and right for them – but how can we do that in a clear, simple, and engaging way?

This practical workshop will help you to write client-friendly plans and reports using plain English, whilst making sure you still include what you need from a compliance point of view.  There are also going to be practical examples and exercises to help bring it to life and really cement your learning for the future.

It also provides 3 hours of Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments (CISI) endorsed and accredited CPD.

This Sandbox Session is for you if:

  • you sometimes find it hard to explain complicated ideas in a simple way.
  • you’re not sure what needs to be in your report to make sure it’s compliant.
  • you want to make sure you are using language which makes reports readable and easy to understand?
  • you want ways of making your reports more readable and appealing using visual styles, graphics, and layout techniques?

What’s going to be covered?

During the session, we’ll be looking at:

  • What the ‘rules’ say needs to be included in a report, and what doesn’t?
  • SMART goals and objectives and investment preferences
  • How to write reports the client wants to read using language, tone, and readability tricks as well as visual style and layout
  • How to get your message across – focus on the why and release your inner storyteller!

There are also going to be practical exercises which are fun, and informal and will really help to reinforce those key points!

What are the Learning Objectives?

The learning objectives for the session are:

  • What do COBs and FCA Rules say need to be in a suitability report?
  • What aspects and areas do not need to be included?
  • What should be covered in a comprehensive suitability report?
  • How has Consumer Duty affected our reports?
  • To learn the difference between a Financial Planning goal and an investment objective
  • To learn how to write SMART objectives in your report that are personalised to the client.
  • How to write a report the client wants to read using language, visual styles, and layout techniques.
  • How to use language to make reports readable and easy for a client to understand.
  • How can reports be made more inviting using graphics, colours, layout, and styles?

“Brilliant ideas for explaining difficult concepts to clients in a simple way.”

“Rewording the long-drawn-out sections of reports was good practice. It made the session more practical. I also liked how we applied areas to include in reports to current clients.”

“I really liked that I had to think about how I could make something sound easier for the client.”
