Supporting generational planning through protection solutions | New Insurance and Protection | Issue 1

A new chapter: Introducing New Insurance and Protection

This month marks the launch of our New Insurance & Protection supplement within IFA Magazine!

Protection is more than a safety net; it’s a cornerstone of financial planning, helping clients safeguard income, assets, and future aspirations.

We’ll be covering a vast spectrum of planning, from income protection, life cover, critical illness, later-life solutions, emerging innovations, and much more.

Every other month, as we alternate with our Mortgage and Property Investment Magazine, we’ll bring you exclusive expert insight from some of the protection sector’s leading and respected voices, market trends, and practical guidance to help navigate a fast-paced protection landscape.

We’re looking forward to guiding you through the latest updates, innovations, and expert thinking in the protection market.

Protection and the great wealth transfer

To kick off our first-ever New Insurance & Protection section, we explore how protection is becoming a cornerstone of estate planning and wealth transfer. Catharine Stagg, Managing Director at Stagg Mortgage Services, explains how inheritance tax (IHT) pressures and multi-generational planning are making protection conversations more important than ever.

Using protection to preserve wealth

Next, we bring our attention to how intergenerational planning and IHT conversations are drawing protection closer into the heart of advice. Alan Lakey, founder and director of CIExpert, highlights that as IHT affects a broader range of families, solutions such as whole-of-life cover can play a crucial role in helping clients manage future liabilities and preserve wealth for the next generation. Earlier protection planning can provide certainty and peace of mind for families looking to pass on their legacy.

Cutting through protection complexity

To bring us to a close this month, we turn to why the protection market’s complexity shouldn’t stand in the way of effective advice. Jack Southcott, Head of Proposition (Protection) at The Exeter, explains that while the range of products and features can feel overwhelming, advisers who focus on clarity and client outcomes can cut through confusion and deliver truly meaningful value.

IFA Talk Podcast: supporting clients through cancer

Don’t miss this month’s special New Insurance & Protection episode of IFA Talk, featuring Mark Stephenson, the CEO of Reframe Cancer.

In this episode, we tackle a critical question: how can clients be best supported through a cancer diagnosis, and what role should protection planning play along the way? Listen to the latest episode here.

Staying ahead in protection

That’s just a glimpse of what’s inside this month’s New Insurance & Protection supplement. From intergenerational wealth strategies to simplifying complex products and supporting clients through life’s most challenging events, there’s plenty to help ensure that the most meaningful protection outcomes are delivered.

Protection isn’t a ‘nice to have’, it’s central to good advice. And as client needs evolve, so too must the way advisers approach it.

For more insights and the latest updates, make sure you’re checking in with us often here.

We’ll be right here throughout April and beyond, helping you stay ahead of the conversations that matter most to you and your clients.
