Maven Cognition launches EIS fund targeting 3x returns

Fund launch follows Maven’s acquisition of EIS manager Newable Ventures

Maven Cognition, a subsidiary of Maven Capital Partners (“Maven”), today announces the launch of the Maven Cognition EIS Fund (“the Fund”). Formed following Maven’s strategic acquisition of Newable Ventures Limited in April 2024, Maven Cognition is a dedicated EIS fund manager, further strengthening Maven’s position as one of the UK’s most active investors in high growth, emerging businesses.

The Fund offers experienced investors an opportunity to build wealth and generate income by investing in dynamic UK smaller companies within the thriving mid to deep tech sectors. With a focus on transformative technologies such as Advanced Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security and Quantum Computing, the Fund will complete at least five investments to minimise concentration risk and create a diversified portfolio.

The Fund is open for qualifying investors until 5 April 2025 for a minimum subscription of £25,000, and targets a 3x return.

Maven Cognition brings a wealth of experience with a management team which has amassed over 30 years of expertise in early-stage investments. Its established relationships with local business communities, universities and industry clusters across the UK mean that the Fund is able to gain early insights into emerging trends and innovations, enhancing its access to investment opportunities across the UK and reaching beyond the typical urban centres to uncover high potential businesses in diverse locations.

The Enterprise Investment Scheme (“EIS”) provides a highly tax efficient structure, and this launch comes as new tax measures are prompting investors and advisors to reassess financial strategies. Key benefits include 30% income tax relief, capital gains tax (CGT) deferral on amounts invested, and CGT exemption of any growth of investment value, with EIS qualifying shares continuing to attract 100% inheritance tax relief when held for at least two years. The EIS sunset clause was also recently extended until 2035, ensuring that tax relief for investors remains available, particularly after the Autumn Budget has placed increased demands on taxpayers.

Richard Male, Managing Director at Maven Cognition, said: “We are delighted to introduce the Maven Cognition EIS Fund, building on our proven track record of providing investors with exposure to the dynamic and attractive mid to deep tech sectors, while supporting ambitious smaller companies to scale and disrupt markets. The recent tax changes have put the spotlight on investment vehicles that not only provide growth potential but also offer substantial tax benefits. Our EIS Fund is designed to meet this need, blending tax efficiency with investments in innovative UK tech companies. By strategically targeting high-impact sectors like artificial intelligence, clean tech, and cybersecurity, we aim to leverage the full potential of the UK’s vibrant technology ecosystem.”

Maven Cognition will be hosting a series of events, both in-person and online, for financial professionals. These sessions will provide comprehensive insights into the Fund’s structure, sector focus, and the tax benefits available to clients.
