CII seeks future leaders for its 2023 New Generation Programme

The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) has said today that it is seeking rising stars from across the profession to join its flagship talent scheme, the New Generation Programme. The 2023/24 class will be made up of 40 promising professionals from claims, underwriting, broking, and the London Market.

According to the CII, each group will produce a project or initiative that could make a significant difference to the insurance profession and present it to the CII Board. Typically taking around six months to complete, and involving collaboration with members across the country, these projects are both challenging and rewarding. Previous projects include the Reputation Risk in a Social Media Culture report, the Insurance Implications of Fracking report, and most recently, the Hybrid Working London Market report.

This year’s programme will include:

  • An interactive session with key personnel from the Financial Conduct Authority
  • Talks from Members of Parliament and lobbying organisations in the insurance sector, as well as a tour of the Houses of Parliament
  • Training on subjects such as leadership and handling the media

Alan Vallance, Chief Executive of the CII, said: “The CII’s flagship New Generation programme has been helping to advance talent in our profession since 2011. This year’s intake will take us beyond 500 participants, which is a phenomenal achievement. The New Gen programme continues to provide a fantastic opportunity for those early in their careers to take on a challenge that tests their ability and gives them the confidence to become a leader of the future. The programme is part of the CII’s broader effort to develop a pipeline of new insurance and financial planning professionals that also includes apprenticeships, T levels and the world-class learning and qualifications for which we are rightly known internationally. I am looking forward to meeting this year’s New Gen cohort and seeing the exciting work they undertake.”

Applicants must prove they have made significant strides in their professional development, demonstrating a strong contribution to the team or department in which they work. They are likely to hold a minimum qualification of Dip CII level and five to ten years’ experience within the general insurance profession. They must be CII members, working within either insurance claims, broking, underwriting, or the London Market. Applications from groups that are currently underrepresented in the profession are particularly encouraged, such as women, ethnic minorities, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and those identifying with both seen and unseen disabilities. The closing date for applications is 7 August 2023.
