As “Know Your Numbers Week” (8–14 September) encourages adults across the UK to take control of their blood pressure, Vitality is calling on advisers to play a pivotal role in promoting prevention through health screening and early risk identification.
The Vitality Health Claims Insights Report 2024 revealed a stark truth: Vitality members are around four times more likely* to be flagged with an at-risk reading for hypertension, cholesterol, or blood glucose levels during clinician-led health checks than through self-reported data. This optimism bias—where people overestimate their health—underscores the urgent need for professional screening pathways.
Insurers and advisers are uniquely positioned to guide and support clients with proactive health management. By recommending products that include access to comprehensive screening benefits, advisers can help clients to understand their health better, detect underlying risks early and take meaningful steps to improve their health outcomes.
Arun Thiyagarajan, CEO Vitality Health said: “Prevention is one of the most powerful tools we have in improving long-term health outcomes. By helping members to understand their health better and identify risks early—whether it’s high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, or cancer markers—we can help them take action earlier and help deliver better health outcomes. Crucially advisers are in a unique position to champion this approach.
By recommending products that include access to health checks and screening pathways, advisers can not only add value to what their cover offers, but also support healthier, longer lives. It’s about shifting the conversation from reactive care to proactive wellbeing.”
